Product Information

What is gliadin?

Gluten can be found in wheat, barley, and rye, which are common in cereal-based products and are an additive in many others. Gliadin is a protein found in gluten and may trigger a response from your immune system if you have a genetic predisposition to a gluten allergy and/or Coeliac disease. The immune response is triggered because your body views gluten as 'foreign' and therefore produces autoantibodies as a defence mechanism, resulting in inflammation and damage to the small intestine. Gliadin can be produced for other reasons apart from gluten intolerance; therefore, this test is often taken alongside a Tissue Transglutaminase IgA test for a more accurate result.

Coeliacs may suffer from any of a number of symptoms including:

  • Bloating
  • Diarrhoea
  • Flatulence or excess wind
  • Unexplained weight loss

What is the main test for gliadin?

The Better2Know gliadin antibody test assists doctors in diagnosing Coeliac disease since the test detects gliadin autoantibodies. The gliadin antibody test may be for you if you have experienced the symptoms above or have a family history of Gluten intolerance or Coeliac disease. By taking this test on its own or with a Tissue Transglutaminase IgA test, you will be able to find out whether you need to see a doctor or nutritionist to discuss treatment.

How can gliadin be tested?

A single blood sample is needed for a gliadin antibody test. At a Better2Know clinic of your choice, we will take a blood sample from you, and send it directly to our certified country laboratory for swift and accurate analysis.

How will I receive my test results?

Your test results will become available two working days from when your blood sample arrives at the laboratory. As soon as the results become available, one of our Patient Services team will contact you to let you know that you can now access your results. Simply log in using the details provided by our team on the secure patient area of our website to access your confidential results.

What should I do with my results?

The gliadin antibody test will detect the presence of antibodies associated with the gliadin protein. We can arrange a private doctors consultation throughout the country for you who will talk you through your results and may request further investigations to understand whether or not you have a gluten Intolerance, and/or may be asked to eliminate gluten from your diet to monitor your condition. You can also contact your GP, if you prefer.

How can I book my test?

To book your gliadin antibodies test, call us on the number above. Better2Knows expert advisors from our Patient Services team will be available 24/7 to answer any additional questions or queries.
