What is a menopause test?

The Better2Know menopause test assesses your menopausal status by determining the levels of five hormones that contribute to the regulation of your reproductive cycle. Hormones are important in that they control different processes within your body such as digestion, lactation, metabolism, and reproduction.

Why consider a menopause test?

Have you experienced menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, mood swings or erratic periods? The Better2Know menopause test could be for you as fluctuations in hormone levels can indicate issues with the pituitary or thyroid glands, or a pending or established menopause.

How does this test work?

At a Better2Know clinic, a blood sample will be taken. We will then send it to our accredited country laboratory for fast and accurate analysis.

What tests will be run on my sample?

The Better2Know menopause test comprises testing for:

  • Luteinizing hormone (LH). Helps to control the menstrual cycle and release of eggs
  • Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). This is important the production of eggs in the ovaries
  • Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). This controls production of the thyroid hormones
  • Free thyroxine (FT4). This can assist in determining whether your thyroid is functioning properly
  • Oestradiol. A hormone which is important for the growth and development of the female reproductive system

How will I receive my results?

Our Patient Services team will contact you directly as soon as your results are ready, you can view your results online in the secure patient area of our website. Your results will be ready to view within one working day from when your sample was received at our accredited country laboratory.

If the Better2Know menopause test confirms the menopause, we recommend that you discuss the next steps with a doctor. This could be your own GP or Better2Know can arrange a private consultation from a location around the country using our extensive network of highly skilled doctors. At your consultation, it may be decided that you do not need any treatment if your symptoms are not severe.
